August in the Languedoc

It's here, it's finally arrived, August in France. Is it just me or is the whole world and his wife on holiday ? The bustling markets of Limoux and Mirepoix are packed to the gills with people meandering enjoying the ambiance and fine weather, hovering over the award winning displays of cheeses and fresh produce laid out to entice and delight. My usual patisserie in Montreal which bakes the best baguettes in the area and always has a queue now has a line snaking even further than usual. Fresh eclairs sit quietly oozing their dollops of chocolate or coffee creme pâtissiére whilst the apple slices glisten with their glaze. They don't wait long for there is always an enthusiastic and eager face peering down at them, who counts calories on holiday ?

The picture today is rather significant and for those who can read between the lines you will notice that I am careful there is light at the end of the tunnel, it would be churlish to post a picture of a hamster on its wheel anyway !!

Yesterday I took time out for lunch with His Lordship at the clinique where I am happy to report that all is well. On every table there was the obligatory carafe of red wine considered in France to be a sovereign remedy for all ailments. Even here the holiday spirit prevails which leaves me wondering, am I the only person in France working ?

How lovely. Glad to hear your husband is recuperating, definitely caused by litres of red wine consumed in hospitals.
What a lovely photo. The tourist species are here also, but as I wrote the other day, not so elegant as those in the south!

Well you might be rushed off your feet but there is still a lovely sensual feel to your post which, even though I've had breakfast, makes me want to tear into a baguette. Pleased to hear that your husband is on the mend.

That was a lovely read to bring back the sunshine. We have had some fab weather for the last few days but the rain has returned so I needed a little sunshine. That piccie is just so France to me. We have driven down kilometers and kilometers of roads like that over the years eager to get to our destination, maybe one day it will be your place at the end of that drive?? Good to hear his Lordship is up and about.

So glad HL is on the mend. You are working my girl to keep yourself in the manner to which you have become accustomed!! JOKE!!I do not imagine a hamster when I think of you! Perhaps you can have a holiday when he returns and needs some R and R.
Cloudy here today which will make you feel slightly smug. We have had a couple of really lovely sunny days though. Thats summer done then!! love mousie

Gorgeous photo and mouth-watering description of the goods on offer in the boulangerie! I'm glad to hear that your husband is on the mend - is there anything that can't be cured with liberal application of wine or spirits?

Lovely epicurean post Sally! You made my mouth water. The sun is shining here too now, although our markets aren't quite so tempting. So glad HL is doing well; like the idea of red wine being a cure-all.

Lovely sunflowers - I came back to find a big bunch from a friend which arrived while we were away.....so sadly they won't last too long. Tough being in a fun place when everyone but you is on holiday....but hey, lovely place to work.... Funnily enough we watched DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS while we were away (it hasn't stood the test of time, sadly!)....will stick to the book.
Hmm, regarding those plants - Grouse says they're not good and need pulling up before they flower and seed. Aaagh, i've forgotten the name now.

Ah sounds perfect, you will be flat out working, but it is a lovely feeling when the whole world seems on holiday, have a good summer. The rain has arrived here, feels like the middle of winter!

wonderful evocative picture and blog. sounds like you are working hard but there are worse ways of earning a living! we are in the throes of weekly changeovers on our cottage - would be ok if i wasnt also trying to work a couple of days in london. must get my life sorted out to involve more red wine lunches.
