My Godin Stove and other little finds ........

I had the most fantastic Mothers Day. The sun shone and it was utterly glorious. As the mountains of washing blew softly on the line His Lordship and I lay prostrate on the steamers and watched the wisps of clouds overhead. In between idling I took an avalanche of enquiries and cooked a succulent leg of lamb with lush cloves of garlic and sweet shallots.

I'm rather excited by my new acquisition for Le Chateau. A most wonderful hand built cast iron colonial Godin stove which fits snugly into the huge fireplace in the sitting room. I've come to the conclusion that people visit Sallys Chateau to bask in the warmth of South West France. Only yesterday I had visitors from Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Kenya, Italy, Canada, United States and Singapore, not forgetting England of course. On announcing this riveting fact to the family they remain singularly unimpressed. With my marvellous 'must have' purchase Le Chateau is going to be emanating the most delightful warmth all year round. I can't divulge how much I paid for it because you know how utterly discreet I am but lets just say it was a bargain I couldn't resist.

It took a team of 2b's muscle clad friends to fit it into place whilst I danced around in delight. The collection of female onlookers of all ages admired the chaps after which it was necessary to offer refreshment to all and sundry. All good intentions of observing abstinence during Lent went to seed.

We laughed till we cried though !

Oh, isn't the above picture riveting ? another of my little 'finds'. Decided to splash out and treat myself for 30 centimes. If you look closely you will see that the residents of the Camargue seem to be getting into all sorts of mischief. Makes us all in the Languedoc look positively angelic I'd say.

I was trying to find Penny on the sketch, it looked like the party she had been at on Saturday night!

Love things like that though, a little snippet of social history, you can just feel the energy.

As for the stove, is it one of those really cute pot bellied versions? They are so pretty for something so utilitarian.

It's still quite wintry here in New York, but once again you have given me reason to believe that spring will eventually arrive. Well done on the Godin. Don't know what they are, but if you've bought one they must be magnifique!

Another fabulous find, Sally - wish I knew how you do it. You should give shopping tours! Imagine - the Chateau, the vineyards and the flea markets at one go!

ooooh, we have a Godin, they are beasts when they get going, so warm. Ours is a tad capricious tho, sometimes doesn't like the door closed, sometimes loves it...
I hope yours is compliant!
