Lockdown from Bridport - Part 3 - Day 28

Monday. Fantastic, time to get up and go. I am very lucky that I have somewhere to go, a purpose, an aim, a goal, a little shop just down the road where I can work from. Today was sorting out all the winter stock and getting out all the vibrant summer clothes. How uplifting it was knowing that spring along with the reopening is on the horizon. Hanging up lightweight colourful clothes was a real joy.

The subject of a 'staycation' arose when 'The Undertaker' arrived back from work. We sat and mulled over where we could go, and perhaps more importantly, if we could go. I envisage an onslaught of visitors when restrictions are lifted which leads me to hope that the urge to shop will return, which quite naturally leads me to the conclusion that a holiday is a rather far off dream...

I go out into the garden and inspect my mimosa tree. In its third year it is still devoid of flowers. If only it would bloom. To my mind a vase full of its wonderful delicate branches along with the distinctive aroma it produces would make me imagine I was on a sunny Mediterranean holiday . I could rustle up a table with a bright blue and white check tablecloth, place an oozing brie on a battered breadboard, rip open a crusty baguette, open a bottle of chilled rose and, voila instant vacation.

But I'm still in the 'here and now' along with countless others. I'm hunched in front of an open fire in our little front room. The antique clock is ticking reassuringly on the wall, as it did all through my childhood. The latest government corona virus update is on in the background. We are here for a while longer, bound by restrictions and I haven't met one single person who is finding this easy. It's not difficult if we compare our lives to so many others round the world, but never in our experience have we had our freedom curtailed and that is what makes us restless I think.

I run a deep hot bath, I recognise I am privileged to be able to do so. One of my little extravagances is expensive soap. Despite the last bar not even resembling a sliver I unwrap another fat block and revel in its luxurious creamy lather. The day has slipped pleasingly by.

Today I want to give a 'shout out' to; Honora, The Violets from JD Cleaning, Steph from Style Vintage, Sue from Bridport market, Neil Barnes, Photographer, Teresa of Snooty Fox, Liz Stevens, Julia, my neighbour, Judith from Mr Moo's and Procrastinaire.

Thank you so much in sharing my lockdown.

PS. Picture from last week when we had blue skies... I guess it will go in the 'holiday 2021 file'
