A day out

Today was a 'day out' if you know what I mean. I stayed in the same place, ie: Le Chateau but took some time for reflection and contemplation. One of the ways I like to relax apart from with a glass of the local Cotes de Malpere is to write. All of us have former lives in one shape or another, pasts that form and shape the way we think and live our lives. Shadows and ghosts that flit from our subconscious to conscious and even haunt us for a while.

Which is why today found me opening up a new chapter of a book. The pages lie clean and smooth under my touch. I sharpen up my pencil for I need a very sharp point for this one. I doubt if there will be much need for a rubber for I feel that this will flow quite naturally from my finger tips.

It's going to be about David and Goliath based on that well known tale from the Hebrew Bible and set in approximately 1030 BC, give or take a few years. It led me to all sorts of fascinating sites and I enjoyed lingering for a while on the Renaissance painter of Michelangelo who painted a marvellous picture depicting David about to cut off the head of Goliath.

But this is a modern tale set in 2007 and Goliath is a wealthy property developer/landowner and David is a farmer.

It's quite a tale, even though I say so myself but like any crafts person who cares about their work, a wood turner who may add a final polish, a topiarist who may add a final clip, an artist who may add another stroke, this one will be reflected upon and viewed from every possible angle before it is unveiled.

Meanwhile here is a picture of 'my baby' who gives me immense inspiration and one of the reasons why I bother at all.

Lovely, lovely picture and beautiful blog. I have to write in pencil, too, at least to sketch out the ideas - one of these automatic mechanical ones you never have to sharpen.

And a very beautiful baby she is too. Here, I thought you were going to take the padlock of the gates...

What a gorgeous picture. I am determined to have a trip to your chateau, it looks so lovely. The whole family (11 but add partners of nieces and nephews and could be 14) is planning a holiday for various milestone birthdays and anniversaries that all coincide in 2009. Perhaps Carcassonne will tempt them more than the mooted Tuscany?
