Carcassonne Treasures

I found myself having to go into Carcassonne yesterday but not for a particularly wonderful reason. (Yes I have off days too you know) and I don't mind telling you this because if I was reading this blog I might question whether I was real or not, Doesn't the woman ever have a duff day ? I would be thinking.

Anyway to make it bearable I treated myself and companions to some wicked croissants filled with rich almond paste and lightly dusted with sweet icing sugar. Feeling surprisingly better I found that we were near to my little treasure troves where I always find a little something for myself, or lately supposedly for Sallys Chateau, my on-line shop. Except it's not on-line yet as I'm having difficulty parting with anything, the specification being that I have to love what I sell. Whoever says you cant become too attached to things is wrong. Grumbling reluctantly the others (male as you may have guessed) mooched around. One of them spied an upright 1960's style ashtray, the sort that took the tip of your finger off when you tried to dispose of your butt. And, oh dear, I found two divine bedspreads. 'You don't need them' a voice said in my ear. 'They are for my shop' I replied on the defence. As soon as we got home they were laid on beds, just testing you understand. The white cotton one trimmed with lace belongs in the garden bedroom as it sets off the stripped floorboards a treat and the one with gorgeous little embroidered flowers looks rather scrummy in the master bedroom.

To absolve myself from any guilt I might have been feeling I set to today in the garden. Ten wheelbarrow loads of weeds. I would have had a bonfire but it's not allowed yet, it's still (whisper) too hot and dry.

Finally struggling with the inevitable shall I ?, shan't I ? keep quiet about the bedspreads and hog them all to myself I decided a swim was in order. Everyday now is a bonus, the thought that it will soon be too chilly always makes every dip a complete thrill.

You can understand my dilemma though can't you ?

No, dear, not really.......if you spy a BETTER bedspread on your next visit to Carcassonne THERE lies your dilemma...do you immediately grab the better one for the chateau, which obviously only ever gets the best, or do you put it in the online shop?

When it comes to enjoying the luxury of the sun-warmed pool...no dilemma there.......

Oooh!I love the bedspread. I am a linen addict. I have cupboards of embroidered starched linen tablecloths and a few linen bedcovers I tend to use as tablecloths, ( or I used to before we moved to a smaaller house with a smaller table.)

How could you possibly think of letting that bedspread go? I used to spend hours trawling markets for old French linen, and have such a stack that I've had to stop! I love the big square pillowcases, preferably embroidered with initials.

Keep them, keep them, I love that one in the photo. There, dilemma over!
Oh go on Sally - keep them you know you want to. never take men shopping they turn the whole thing into a rushed nightmare.

Wow ten barrows of weeds that is pretty impressive . . hah still too hot and dry . . . ship them over here . . we have NO such restrictions - probably wouldn't burn though too wet.

Enjoy your pool before it gets too chilly . . .had we got an outdoor one I doubt we would have used it this year.

I'm another linen-hound - can't resist it. I can't find any fault with your logic or purchase - after all, it's all in the name of a beautiful chateau, and if the chatelaine isn't happy then no one will be happy!
Seriously - when you get that shop up and running I'll help keep you busy shopping!

I would be exactly the same as you Sally, if I spied gorgeous Antiquities, I'm afraid it is one of my weaknesses. By the way, love the Bedspread, not only that I am looking for a BED exactly like the one you have here, especially White in colour. I love Linen, my daughter bought me a present of this when she came back from holiday recently.

Love your bedspread. I am looking for one at the moment, a patchwork preferably. Yours is beautiful you cannot possibly part with it, it is meant for you, some things just are so aren't they?

How reassuring to read this Sally, as I too have a vast collection ardorning my house that will be for my 'Gorgeous Things' shop - just as soon as i get around to organising it.
And baggy bottomed second son is very close to you and tells me it is really hot on a regular basis. I had hope for a flying visit, but he tells me he has to fly home with his little charges at half term.

I would just keep the bedspreads, you could always buy more for the shop that doesn't sell anything!

I am always so overcome with a green-eyed mood when I visit your blog. I am just going to go and look out of the window here at the grey clouds and rain. Sob...

I'm with Mousie get a move on and get the on-line shop going...just finishing the other side of the house and will have loads of beds requiring gorgeous linen!!! However, I don't think I will have any excuse for buying them - just sheer indulgence. How lovely!
Envy the swim, the heat and the sunshine just at the moment...
