Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses and other riveting matters of importance

The most interesting snippet to emerge last week was the riveting fact that I possessed a pair of Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses, circa 1970's. Combined with a lovely linen skirt a friend had kindly bestowed on me I endeavour to cut a dash. One might be selling one's Chateau but standards should not be allowed to slip.

Dinner party conversation has become dreary in my opinion. Is there any topic more likely to send you reaching to top up your glass or fall asleep than a) House sales, b)The Credit Crunch, c) The Weather or d) Phutball ? Oh I forgot, the price of petrol. You can see that the discovery of my sunglasses was a ray of light in an otherwise uneventful week. I'm careful to phrase that 'ray of light' rather than 'ray of sunshine' because the weather is unseasonal to say the least. But hey, I don't want to be accused of being a bore.

I've rashly promised a magazine an interview with The Small Cross One and 2b on their opinion of the merits, or not, of the French education system.. Big mistake. Despite promising them allsorts which basically amount to nothing the deadline looms large. 2b has given me the option of a 'window' tonight of ten minutes max on account of the Phutball which anyone who is anyone knows all about and is watching avidly.

Which means I am a no-one and no-one apparently wears Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses circa 1970's apart from me. So now you know.

I was intrigued by this front door spotted recently on a foray into the small pretty town of Limoux. As I was photographing it and narrowly missed a) stepping into doggy doo, and b) being run over I was struck by a few of the mantra's that form the basis of my life.

1. You can never judge a book by it's cover or indeed a sausage by it's skin
2. Behind every door there lurks a possible opportunity
3. Behind every successful man there is an even more successful woman.

Now about the weather and the price of petrol ..........

Indeed standards must be kept !
Yes, diner party talk is all domb and gloom.
I stick to taking to children, get much more rivetting conversation, especially from the Aspergers ones who think they live in an Alien world!

Thank goodness we are are a phutball free zone but whenever the subject comes up now (yawn!) I shall think of you swanning around in your YSL sunglasses rising above boring dinner party talk.

Vintage YSL glasses sound very cool!

I am also struck by the imagery of doors and windows, and very much like your mantras.

Those conversation topics you mention are also always on parade in New York. Sometimes, it can be difficult to try to squeeze another item on the agenda. If the get together is long enough though, the chances improve ... something else might even be welcomed, after a few hours!

Best wishes!

You are so right, it is becoming a bore having to discuss the price of fuel and the change in climate. We have it everyday here!

Do I spot a bit of house hunting going on? The sunglasses sound very retro chic to me.

I love front doors. I sometimes prefer talking to animals and like inthemud I love talking to children too.
Good luck with the chateau and house hunting?

I don't think phutball has reached me here in deepest darkest rural Devon. Perhaps from your blog it's a good thing!!

luckily because we couldn't even beat Croatia in what amounted to a friendly since they were already in, phutbol is barely raising its dull little head here and tank feck for that. Bit of a waste to have fab sunnies and no need to hide behind them and yawn prettily.

I don't even know what phutball is - but I AM an ignorant colonial...

Glad you had such a thrilling find, and quite agree re topics of conversation....

Am very tempted to run away from life here at the moment and buy your chateau!

Um I got my sunglasses as Debenham's they cost me £10 . . . and I love them.

Wear your sunnies with pride and anyone who doesn't like them - then remember the emperor's new clothes . . .

Hi Sally thanks for your visit to mine and very good advice about the link. However, I've got to practice doing links before I get round to an ambitious project like selling my house on my blog. I will do it, of course, but I'll have to have a think about it, maybe sleep on it after a nice glass of white... blogthatmamax

I'm very envious of those sunglasses - I am doomed to wear the little magnetic ones that came with my #%&*@ glasses. If I'd only have laser eye surgery, I too could wear vintage, glam sunglasses.
