Lockdown from Bridport - Part 3 - Day 69

Mothering Sunday. Today is about love and respect but its also been a reflective day for a lot of women of all ages, waking up to news of violence and discord when peace was called for.

I was given the most beautiful home bouquet comprising of pale pink hyacinths along with a mixture of tulips and daffodils from 'Office Darling'. We went on a walk from the house for some fresh air but mainly for some marvellous uninterrupted chat. It was the usual stroll, cutting through the deserted caravan park to the nearest harbour of West Bay where groups sat huddled round tables eating a picnic of fish and chips in the cold. We walked back along the old railway track, all spruced up and tarmacked recently, what for I'm not quite sure, as it was perfectly passable before. Out of the wind the temperature felt quite pleasant. I dropped off a little present along with a card to my Mother whilst 'Office Darling' donned a pinny and slaved over a hot stove back at mine. 'The Undertaker' took his Mother a bowl of miniature roses rather than the usual orchid because he left it rather late... 'You've known all week' was all I said...

Son in France joins us via a video call whereupon we all do an impersonation of Oprah doing her infamous 'whaaaaat' and gaping like a fish . It's a whole lot more entertaining. We all struggled somewhat to find something to say that wasn't run of the mill, but fascinating to hear from someone who sees the World from the other side of the channel. For example, although not under actual lockdown, they have a 6pm curfew over there (that no one can see rhyme nor reason for) yet one can at least get a haircut. I think he found our long unruly hair quite amusing!

Afterwards I sit back in front of a roaring fire digesting a first class roast chicken lunch and think how fortunate I am. I reflect on everything that has happened in the last seven days where the spotlight has been on events concerning women. It's been a long week and we seem no further forward.
