Not so perfect peace
Despite what the picture may imply the rose tinted specs were most definitely off last night here in the sunny South of France.
Browsing through the news this morning I am beginning to wonder if I am the only person with a television who did not get to see the Diana memorial concert last night. It was not through lack of trying but no French TV station seemed to be broadcasting the show, not on my television anyway. 'We live in a cultural wasteland' I fumed to His Lordship who looked up bewildered from his all improving book and was no help whatsoever. Matters were not improved by hearing that the Golden Oldies were rocking yet again down in Dorset to another music fest with twirling round the room to Rod Stewart and a singalong to boot at full volume no doubt. I may as well have been on a desert island with no discs.
Saturday was a scorcher weather wise as we said fond farewells to our American guests who had enjoyed the most marvellous fortnight here at Le Chateau. Changeover day is always fraught (for me) as I endeavour to present the house at its stunning best for the next arrivals. By the time the pumping music from the fete here in the village started up at 11pm after a day of ceaseless toiling the only place I was fit for was bed. With 2b and The Small Cross One on the loose however in the thick of the partying sleep was not an option until all were safely home. (Think late)
Never mind another week dawns down South and now that we are into July the holiday season is well and truly upon us. Which means, in a nutshell, that the whole of France is preparing to close itself down for the summer season and boogie.
Not to Rod Stewart it seems.

How wonderful to have sun. We have, but it is a pale imitation of the real thing.
You didnt miss much with the concert, one or two tired old rockers, ie Tom jones, some incomprehensible rap, but Elton was good. And the shots of Diana were beautiful.
warm wishes

Rod Stewart is in Suffolk tomorrow night - I have tickets!!!!!!!!!!
Still raining here just to make you feel slightly superior.
For goodness sake get a sky dish for your apartment!! Was the concert live on line I wonder perhaps. It was very good - though I believe it overran and some of the artists didnt get to do their third songs or something.Rod included. I will give him your regards!
I'd happily trade you the concert for the sunshine!
I hope you have a season that's as stress-free as it can be!
Yes summer is here and our village will be humming and Saturdays will be fraught now until the end of the season.
Think it may be time for a soothing G&T by the pool.
