Not so perfect peace

Despite what the picture may imply the rose tinted specs were most definitely off last night here in the sunny South of France.

Browsing through the news this morning I am beginning to wonder if I am the only person with a television who did not get to see the Diana memorial concert last night. It was not through lack of trying but no French TV station seemed to be broadcasting the show, not on my television anyway. 'We live in a cultural wasteland' I fumed to His Lordship who looked up bewildered from his all improving book and was no help whatsoever. Matters were not improved by hearing that the Golden Oldies were rocking yet again down in Dorset to another music fest with twirling round the room to Rod Stewart and a singalong to boot at full volume no doubt. I may as well have been on a desert island with no discs.

Saturday was a scorcher weather wise as we said fond farewells to our American guests who had enjoyed the most marvellous fortnight here at Le Chateau. Changeover day is always fraught (for me) as I endeavour to present the house at its stunning best for the next arrivals. By the time the pumping music from the fete here in the village started up at 11pm after a day of ceaseless toiling the only place I was fit for was bed. With 2b and The Small Cross One on the loose however in the thick of the partying sleep was not an option until all were safely home. (Think late)

Never mind another week dawns down South and now that we are into July the holiday season is well and truly upon us. Which means, in a nutshell, that the whole of France is preparing to close itself down for the summer season and boogie.

Not to Rod Stewart it seems.

Never mind Sally about the concert. I've eaten raspberries and cream (with meringues) two nights running and thought of you! (Oh dear now it sounds like I'm boasting about the concert AND the raspberries - I only caught snatches of the concert anyway)

Boogie....oh dear no, not here. Just a few sedate Breton dances for us!
How wonderful to have sun. We have, but it is a pale imitation of the real thing.
You didnt miss much with the concert, one or two tired old rockers, ie Tom jones, some incomprehensible rap, but Elton was good. And the shots of Diana were beautiful.
Agree with Elizabeths comments about concert-BBC links and commentary were quite poor too! However some of Diana images were lovely....and of course, for me Take That were the highlight of the evening! (sad or what!)

warm wishes

What a shame you missed the concert. We can't get channel 5 up here, not that there's anything of any interest on it but sometimes it's terribly annoying!

I don't know Sally, I would trade you the concert for some sunshine. It's so grey and depressing here!

I'd trade the concert for the sun too! I din't think it was all that good, all the acts seemed a bit tired and the links were terrible. Lovely shots of Diana though as others have said.

I am sorry you missed the concert, I watched the whole thing, well I was in and out cooking etc. It was great, sorry, there will no doubt be a DVD of it. My son was there working and I saw him on the TV briefly.

Oh you do sound a tad cross.
Rod Stewart is in Suffolk tomorrow night - I have tickets!!!!!!!!!!
Still raining here just to make you feel slightly superior.
For goodness sake get a sky dish for your apartment!! Was the concert live on line I wonder perhaps. It was very good - though I believe it overran and some of the artists didnt get to do their third songs or something.Rod included. I will give him your regards!

Shame you missed the concert. I practically had to beg my husband to let me watch it to the end (didn't see the beginning though)He's only interested in whatever's in the charts at the time and even then, he's not really bothered! He'd never heard of Supertramp (no surprise really as he didn't know who Fleetwood Mac or The Pretenders were until I told him) However, it was very good but have to agree, the links and the BBC presenters were awful!
I'd happily trade you the concert for the sunshine!

Too bad you missed it - I couldn't watch all of it as The Great Dane was watching the FIFA games, so kept switching back and forth. I did get to see Rob Stewart, and really he was the one I wanted to see.
I hope you have a season that's as stress-free as it can be!

How frustrating not to be able to tune into the concert. I caught bits of it in between chores. But the sound kept going off for some reason. We used to have the same frustrations with Welsh TV. They once famously cut into the re-run of the Grand National (who fell where, pulled up etc) just to TALK about rugby. I stamped around the house in a rage! That's when we got a satellite dish!
I missed the concert too. Have been to see Rod Stewart twice - amazing.

Yes summer is here and our village will be humming and Saturdays will be fraught now until the end of the season.

I'm another one who didn't see the concert - at least it sounds as though you had a bit of sun, which we haven't seen for weeks - and it's JULY for heaven's sake!
Think it may be time for a soothing G&T by the pool.

I didn't see the concert, I forgot about it. She was lovely and all, but I didn't quite understand all the tremendous national grief that went on, being a hardened old cynic, but I was so sad for her boys. As her funeral took place I was having my hair done - a trial run for my wedding. All the hairdressers were weeping over my curlers. Oh the joy.
