Christmas in a French Chateau

Fed up of having to toil over a hot stove at Christmas ? Does the thought of yet another Christmas trying to compete with Country Living's artfully arranged baubles and Nigella Lawson domestic Goddess's leave you feeling frazzled ?

I have the perfect solution!

If peace and harmony in an atmosphere of old world elegance is what you dream of then look no further. Imagine this.

Coming in from the crisp evening air and throwing open the double doors the lights from the Christmas Tree reflecting on the panelled hallway your eyes travel up the sweeping staircase decorated with holly and ivy. With the smell of Christmas spices in the air and a log fire crackling in the hearth you know this is how Christmas should really be spent.

For the first time we are opening Le Chateau for the Christmas/New Year weeks. You can either take the self catering option or we can cater for you using the very best of fresh ingredients tailor made to your requirements. Sample the diverse wines of the Languedoc region, browse the markets for local specialities but best of all soak up the atmosphere of a totally uncommercial Christmas this year.

And if all that tempts you visit Le Chateau for further pictures of this beautiful house.

Oh sally you paint such a beautiful picture of such a tempting christmas! You make it sound so very very enticing France at christmas is so far more restful and relaxing en famille than the ones I remember in England! Even for me living here in France already the thought of being whisked away to have someone else be chief cook and bottle washer for the celebrations is very very tempting indeed! I bet someone clever is even now sitting at home in England thinking ummm why not!!!I wonder if it will be a crowd of lucky purple cooers!!!

Oh yes please but I would have to bring the rest of the entourage too and that would make any venue lose a little of its charm. We are in the middle of seeing who is going to crack first and mention the 'c' word so that the rest of us can grumble. Perhaps next year? (she said, optimistically - well, a girl can dream). Good luck and carry on promoting.

Oh all right then, if you insist - seriously, can't afford it this year, but a girl can dream for next year ...

Sally it sounds lovely and you have me convinced. Unfortunately it's the 4 sons, 4 sons' partners and 6 grandchildren, not to mention the keen mountain biker and the cat that need convincing Sigh!

Hello from New York, Sally.

Once again, you have just created such a beautiful invitation to your part of France.

Maybe, one of these days, I will be lucky enough to get there.

Is there ever a possibility of a single booking, or would I be better off trying to collect some other pals who might want to visit?

In my traveling experience, it can be tough trying to get friends' schedules to coincide, but maybe, sometime in 2008, you might ... with our help ... put together a purple week or some such.

May be a terrifying thought, but 2008 is still far, far away.

Sounds fantastic. We are another lot whose entourage is too huge to move around although I am looking forward to mine. Hope you are planning some serious R and R afterwards!

Hi Sally - did you send out those advertising leaflets in the end? I never got mine. Sounds wonderful - I will try and rustle you up some business....Mootia x

Mootia: Oh dear I'm afraid that I'm still struggling with an array of images on Vista Print and what with having to conjure up seductive scenes of Christmas whilst wondering if I can manage five mins wriggling my toes in the warm sun I haven't posted anything yet.

Frances: A purplecoo week ? I'm sure Le Chateau would be up to such a challenge !!!

I agree, a very enchanting Christmas indeed, but I already have plans for France this November...in Paris! Finally, I will be visiting Europe, what a wonderful place. Initially I had wanted to visit the Pyrennes but the plan fell through so I opted for Paris.

It sounds like the best kind of dream!! All of you in the UK and points nearby are so lucky in that you can hop into your car with all the bits and pieces that are essential for your family Christmas - but you can leave behind all the aggravation and work! If I were you I'd be packing for that Chateau!! What a great family "remember when"

Muddy you are so right, I SHOULD have mentioned the skiing on the Pyrenees. However I cannot guarantee snow locally for Christmas, Jan, Feb is the time to come if you want to combine skiing with sightseeing.
